The Sergeant Major Damsel is a very hardy fish species that are best kept in shoals of 5 or more.  As they grow they will become more aggressive towards members of the shoal and other fish. Due to this they should not be kept with shy or peaceful fish species.
They have been known to eat zoanthid corals.
